Five Good Reasons to Upgrade Your Cell Phone 10/29/2009
Advertising companies would all have you believe that your life is not complete without the latest innovation in mobile technology. Everywhere you look, in newspapers, magazines, advertising hoardings and on television, you are bombarded with adverts for this camera phone or that new feature. But if you are happy with your current phone, why should you change? I would like to give you five reasons why you might consider changing your mobile cell phone, particularly if the one you have is a couple of years old, and is on a pay monthly contract. 1. You have had your phone for longer than the initial contract period If you originally signed up for an eighteen month contract and have gone beyond that initial period, then from the carriers point of view, you have paid back any incentive you were offered, such as the free handset. You are fully entitled to cancel the contract and take up a new offer, with a new handset, either with the same carrier, or with an alternative supplier. Speak to your provider and see what deals they will offer you and what new handsets are available. Even if you do not want to change your mobile phone, you should be able to renegotiate your package so that you pay less, or get additional benefits. 2. You have an older phone but use a lot of data download and could benefit from increased data download speeds Newer mobile phones have 3G, or what is known as HSDPA or High Speed Download Packet Access capabilities which, dependent on the mobile network you are signed up to, can deliver significantly faster data download speeds than older devices. 3. You would benefit from better remote email handling Many newer mobiles have sophisticated email clients built in such as Nokia's Mail For Exchange, that allows ordinary mobiles to connect into office email servers relatively easily, in much the same way that Blackberry communication devices do. If you would use email a lot on your mobile device, a Blackberry is something you should consider. With either of these options, ensure that your monthly plan allows for data usage. 4. Your existing phone has a low quality camera, or no camera at all Cameras on mobile phones have gone from being a bit of a gimmick to sophisticated imaging devices capable of taking good photographs, with the added benefit that you usually have your mobile with you, so always have it to hand to take an instant snap. If your phone is a couple of years old, the newer camera technology built into mobiles may surprise you. 5. Your existing phone does not handle music or video If you like listening to music on the move, or watching video, current mobiles come with larger storage memory that makes them ideal for holding large numbers of songs, or a movie to watch whilst you are out and about. The screen technology has improved as well meaning you can actually see the movie, and making this a realistic option. All these are good reasons to check your current mobile contract and speak with your mobile network and see what new cell phone or improved deal you can get from them.
